U.S. Freshwater Nationals 2013

I had a great time participating in nationals as one of two Team San Diego Freedivers teams. My team, “Ramrod” did pretty well considering no one on our teams had freshwater diving or carp shooting experience. Over all a great experience with good friends doing what I love.

Congrats and Thank You

Congrats to the winners and all participants! Thanks for showing up and making this event a success. Big thank you to the Rocky Mountain Spearfishing Association for putting on this great event. Last but not least thanks to Justin, Mario, Alan, Jeremy and the rest of Team San Diego Freedivers.

Who Shot The Biggest Carp?

This guy! (points at self). I spotted this fat carp in a submerged bush. It looked big but I didn’t realize at the time it would win me the Biggest Rough Fish award. It weighed in at 16.84lbs. I got this sweet trophy!

The Scores

Team “Ramrod” came in 12th out of 25 teams. My partner Mario came in 32nd with 25 Carp and I came in 19th with 38 on the individual score. Here are the full results

Spear-a-thon

The comp was from 7am to 3pm. I should have trained more for this. It was a lot of diving and speargun loading. At about 1pm I was exhausted. I got back on the boat for a 15min break and I ended up puking my guts out. I wasn’t motion sick. I was exhausted. I’ve only puked like that one other time. It was during a 60 mile bike ride after having a whole orange and banana at a rest station. Anyway, after blowing chunks I got my second wind. We moved to another cove and continued the killing spree.

Stay tuned

I am still working on the video of this adventure. I hope to have it done for tomorrow or Thursday. It will contain a bunch of Carp death and the shot of the largest Carp of the competition.
